It's funny because its so true. He has been unreal. Obviously he wont keep up this scoring pace but even when hes not scoring hes making things happen. I dont think I've watched a game where I truly felt he was to blame for a loss, GA, etc.
I'm sure you all will disagree with me but I actually thought Bertuzzi played well tonight. He didnt score but I thought he played well without the puck too...
Heres to hoping they repeat on home ice, im cautiously optimistic that yes they can.
I thought the team looked pretty good tonight. I like the lines, the 4th group wasn't as awful as I expected. The third line looks great, Conroy looks solid as a third line centre. The second line was decent, even Bert played not awful. Except the slap pass. The first line, well... Camellari was firing.
Three observations, Phanuef still looks awful, Raymond eats him up. EA curse? Bourque looks like a faster, younger Yelle. Each time I see him, I think Old Yeller? Same skating style. Lastly, I know he was injured, but I'm moving on from Lombardi. He needs to be traded then he'll develop, like Savard... Giguere... St.Louis... Hull...ugh, good thing it's drinking Friday.
Oh yeah, one more thing. Lombardi on the top line? Aucoin with Regehr? I'm thinking some window shopping is being done and it looks a lot like Aucoin, Lombardi and Negrin for Bouwmeester and (futures, a plug or a pick).
No reason Glencross can't be a 50-60 point and 25 goal guy. Once in a while a guy is just better than everyone thinks. That game winner was Sakic-like. He's quick and tries his guts out.
The backhand move was exactly like the game winner in OT in preseason against the Oilers.
Raymond embarrassed Phaneuf on the rush.
Kipper had an outstanding game and second period in particular.
Ref's with a couple of goofs, specifically the penalty on Pardy after he knocked the puck away, the hit from behind on Bourque in the third and the TV timeout in the first after an icing.
Aucoin, Lombardi and Negrin for Bouwmeester and (futures, a plug or a pick).
there are so many reasons that these are NOT the guys getting shipped out. aucoin due to his NTC, lombo due to his value outweighing his contract, and negrin due to his potential (and the fact that the proverbial blueline cupboard is otherwise bare).
Realistically all of the players they picked up in the offseason have really been an intricate part of the Flames success. At the end of the day Bertuzzi is making 1.5 million and with a reduced role, and PP time, I think he will prove to be a good pick up. I still expect 40+ points from the guy and if he is on the second or third line he will look a lot more competent.
Other than Bertuzzi I do think all offseason acquisitions are really living up to what was expected of each of them, at their respective roles. Its the players like Aucoin who are really painful some nights, and even recently he has had it together. I have to admit I didnt understand adding Prust to the line up and I even enjoy watching him play. He is a lot faster than I thought and can score an occassional goal it would seem. The one who I havent enjoyed much of late is Sarich. He is a shut down defenseman who isnt very good at shutting guys down. Past that the last 5 games htey have played really well. I hope they keep this trend up because a streaky team is very difficult to deal with. I obviously dont expect them to win every night but want them to at least be competitive. heres to hoping they dont hit a big slump in the coming days...

First - I totally agree with you.
Second - this is Sutter, and he needs a big move to save his job, and you can't tell me he isn't looking at Bouwmeester and licking his lips.
Third - Aucoin only has to wave his NTC, what contender is gonna take him? Life in FLA is pretty good for a retiree. Beats moving to Nashville. He is a D-man today though. Negrin is D of the future, which FLA wants if Bouwmeester is out, and Lombardi doesn't fit it Calgary... he'll be moved on. Lombardi has speed and potential, other teams want those things, right?
This is just an idea, however I would be surprised if Aucoin and/or Lombardi finish the year with the Flames.
I do agree that Aucoin for sure will be traded should sutter be able to find a trade partner. I dont however think sutter needs to make a trade to keep his job or believe trading Negrin is the answer. As we're learning, drafting is the answer for success and Buowmester isn't that good and is generally unsignable after this year. Sutter still needs to sign Cammalleri keep in mind. Thost signing should pretty much tie up Aucoins 4 mill cap space. Lombardi might be tradeable, especially with the addition of Backlund next year, but I dont think itll happen anytime soon. This is Lombardis year to prove hes top 6, if he doesnt his salary is so cheap they almost need to resign him, and if he does prove it they likely will keep him for the playoffs/rest of the year.
people keep saying this but i think keenan loves the guy. also, i think he fits the 'defense first' system perfectly.... sure other teams would love to have him at his salary and potential (and i DO think he's underutilized here) but he's still got a year and a half left under contract. if he goes, he'll go next year, methinks...

I think Glencross is probably the Flames best pickup in the offseason (although it depends on if you count Giordano as an acquisition).
I think he's battling it out with Bourque as well.

[AND, for the record, i really hope i don't eat those words in the next few weeks...]
